Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest winter resort, with a history from 1896! Over the years it has developed and evolved into one of the biggest and most modern ski resorts in the Balkans. Two world-wide ski races were organized there, while the biathlon track is considered one of the best in the world. Located at Mount Rila, its base is at 1,350 meters, while its higher slopes reach an altitude of 2,600 meters. Its peak is called Mousala, is the highest in the Balkan peninsula and reaches an altitude of 2,925 meters.
The nearest town to the ski resort is Samokov, just 10 kilometers away, while it’s just 73km away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia and 270km from the city of Thessaloníki.
